About us - United Kingdom
September 2nd 1843
The Economistwas founded in 1843 with a mission: to lead the debate in pursuit of progress. At the time, freedom of trade and freedom of the individual were the two major issues that the magazine campaigned for. Today, The Economist remains focused on stimulating debate and convening discussion about a range of ideas and issues. We do that in the magazine, on our website, and through live events.
Our philosophy is to tackle issues with a forward-looking, uniquely global perspective. We are aiming to create events that are for the intellectually curious: those people who enjoy ideas and those who are passionate about the issues that define our world.
Our people continue to be the reason we succeed with our mission. We are individuals, but a team of individuals who collectively strive to innovate and improve the service we deliver. We embrace diversity and welcome new ideas.
Our events are varied. These range from debates, lectures and forums through to major conferences and seminars. We seek speakers who will inform and inspire; sponsors eager to progress new thinking and an audience keen to discuss, debate and learn.
Our company, The Economist Group, is the leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs.
