Gala Dinner

Join us at The World Through a Different Lens Gala Dinner, taking place on the evening of The High-Growth Markets Summit.

Chaired by The Economist's Editor-in-Chief, John Micklethwait, this informal dinner debate will bring together editors from leading publications around the world to analyse the big issues of the day and compare the different interpretations and public perceptions experienced around the world.

The gala dinner will take place on Thursday 29th September at 18:30 in The Grand Connaught Rooms, and is free of charge for all attendees of the summit.

Long gone are the days when the editorial emanating from London, Paris or New York solely defined the global news agenda.

The opinions, views and attitudes of different communities around the world are becoming increasingly influential. This has, however, created a myriad of global news voices that are conflicting, contradictory and bound in culture.

Bringing together four news editors from around the world, this special dinner discussion will examine the idiosyncrasies of global news reporting. With The Economist’s Editor-in-chief, John Micklethwait, leading the way the distinguished panel will mull over some of the big issues of the day and reflect upon how culture has shaped the contemporary news agenda.

Some of the topics under discussion include:
• How do journalists from high-growth markets perceive what is going on in the West?
• Is it fair to say that high-growth world reporting is prone to boosterism?
• How good is economic reporting generally and has it done more harm than good in recent years?
• What will be the big issues of tomorrow?

Confirmed speakers include:
