About the anniversary award 2012

ABOUT
As we celebrated the tenth anniversary of our Innovation Awards programme, we created The Anniversary Award - a one-time honour which recognises the essence of truly great innovation. We invited Economist readers and the wider community the opportunity to vote on who of our previous winners was the most significant to them with the winner announced at the awards ceremony on the night of October 20th 2011.
The voting window was open from June 1st until October 14th 2011 and Economist resders and the wider community were voting for the person who instigated, designed, developed or implemented a particular innovation.
Only one vote per category per person was allowed and we received over 20,000 votes in total. The categories in which our audience casted a vote were as follows:
Bioscience
Business Process
Computing and Telecommunications
Consumer Products and Services
Energy and the Environment
