Nominations now open for The Economist Innovation Awards 2010 - United Kingdom

The Economist calls for nominations for the 2010 Innovation Awards.

Nominations for The Economist's Innovation Awards are now open and will be accepted until April 1st 2010. Readers may nominate individuals (not companies) in one of the seven following categories: bioscience, business process, computing and telecoms, consumer goods and services, energy and the environment, social and economic innovation and “no boundaries”. The winners will be recognised at the annual awards ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, October 21st at the Science Museum, London. The ceremony will be followed by the Innovation Summit on October 22nd.

The Economist’s Innovation Awards are now in their ninth year and are hosted each year by John Micklethwait, The Economist’s Editor-in-chief and Tom Standage, Business Affairs Editor. The 2010 Innovation Awards and Summit will once again celebrate those people whose ideas have shaped the world we live in, and also explore how these ideas can be identified in their early stages. How should entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders decide which ideas to put their faith in?

Tom Standage, Business Affairs Editor, The Economist says: "As the world recovers from the economic crisis, finding new sources of growth is more important than ever. Innovation, which is widely recognised as one of the most important contributors to economic growth, has a crucial role to play. Our Innovation Awards recognise the innovators who have already succeeded in making a real impact, and our Innovation Summit will examine where the opportunities lie in the months and years ahead."

Last year’s winners included the founder of Facebook, the inventor of the digital camera, the scientist behind genome sequencing and the 'the man behind the world’s lowest-cost car'.
