Review: The Talent Management Conference 2010 - United Kingdom

Over 150 senior HR leaders and experts attended Economist Conferences' Talent Management Conference on Tuesday May 25th 2010, at The Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel, London.

Speakers and delegates shared some fascinating and challenging views on the kind of talent and leadership that companies will need to succeed in the new business environment. 

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Chief Economist provided a forecast for the global economy over the next 5 years, and opened a discussion about what this will mean for individuals responsible for managing talent. 

A series of senior HR directors and influential thinkers then put forward their ideas on developing leaders for the future.  There was a great deal of focus on providing employees with a sense of meaning and purpose at work, as the importance of this has been dramatically heightened by global economic uncertainty. 

Other highlights of the debate include:

  • How do you develop sustainable programmes and delivery that is critical for business success?
  • Should HR programme encompass risk exposure and structures that fosters progress and trust?
  • How do you create meaningful working environments - a planet with purpose and vision that is a nice place to work?
  • What are the opportunities with social media in creating a collaborative working atmosphere?
  • How do you move away from dealing with 'processes' to developing engaging strategies with real outcomes?
