Judith Salerno , Leonard D Schaeffer Executive Officer , The Institute of Medicine of the National Academies
Early in her career, Judith Salerno worked as Associate Chief of Staff at the VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and directed the continuum of Geriatrics and Extended Care programs across the country for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Washington, D.C.
She also co-founded the Washington D.C. Area Geriatric Education Centre Consortium, a collaboration of more than 160 educational and community organisations within the Baltimore-Washington region.
Ms Salerno joined the National Institute on Aging (NIA) in 2001. She was a Senior Clinical Investigator implementing clinical research protocols for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and hypertension. Prior to joining the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, Ms Salerno was Deputy Director of the NIA at the National Institutes of Health, US Department of Health and Human Services.
She also served on numerous boards and national committees concerned with health care issues ranging from the quality of care in long-term care to the future of the geriatric workforce.
